Percussionist. Educator. Clinician. Consultant.

Ryan is a percussionist and music educator from North Mississippi. Ryan earned his Associates degree in Music from Northeast Mississippi Community College, his Bachelors in Music Education from Delta State University, and his Masters in Musicology from West Virginia University.

Since 2010 Ryan has taught, composed, arranged, presented, and performed for many camps, clinics, schools, organizations, and audiences all across the United States including DCI, WGI, the NFL, the NBA, and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention.

Ryan was a performing member of the 7th Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps in 2013-14, and was an instructor for Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps in 2017-18. Ryan has also served on the board of directors for the 7th Regiment Youth Performing Arts Organization.

Ryan currently serves as Treasurer for the Mississippi Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society. 

Ryan joined the faculty at New Hope High School in 2023 where he serves as the Assistant Director of Bands/Director of Percussion. Ryan is a proud endorser for Salyers Percussion, Ludwig-Musser, and Black Swamp Percussion.

 

Ryan’s experience in instruction has led him to several schools throughout Mississippi where his percussion sections have all received superior ratings at every contest. Ryan’s groups have also won “Best in Class” awards at various contests.

In 2017-2018, Ryan was hired at Kosciusko High School where the indoor winds program finished with a Gold Medal in Scholastic A in the LMCGPC circuit and were also WGI Winds Scholastic A finalists. The marching band also finished 2nd in Class 4A receiving the Silver Medal at the MHSAA state marching band championships in 2017.

While attending West Virginia University, Ryan served as the Graudate Teaching Assistant for the World Music Performance Center. He assisted and directed the WVU Steel Drum Bands, African Drum & Dance Ensemble, as well as other world music ensembles. While at WVU, Ryan joined the Pittsburgh Steeline in 2019. The Steeline is the official drumline of the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers where they can be seen providing entertainment at all Steelers home games as well as other community events around the Pittsburgh area.

After graduating from WVU, Ryan became the Director of Bands at Mississippi Delta Community College where he grew the program and expanded performance opportunities for students. He created new courses and propelled the music education experience for students throughout campus. While working at MDCC, Ryan joined the Memphis Grizzline, the official drumline for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies. Through this opportunity, Ryan was able to perform in the FedEx Forum for Grizzlies games as well as on Beale Street in Memphis for various entertainment purposes.

Currently, Ryan is the assistant band director at New Hope High School where he serves as the percussion director and marching director. Since joining the staff at New Hope, the band program has received superior ratings and set record high scores in program history. The New Hope indoor percussion program has grown to perform at WGI regionals. He also added a percussion ensemble which has performed at the Magnolia State Percussion Festival. The New Hope percussion program is now seen as one of the top programs in class 5A in the state of Mississippi.
